Cultivating the Sugarcube collection allows friends and business partners Elisa Buratto and Edward Dormer to bring together their enthusiasm for art, design and fashion.
Elisa Buratto’s role as buyer displays her commitment to fashion and design. Growing up in a design-centric family, she was precociously adept at appraising contemporary and vintage fashion, inspiring her later studies in art history. The former co-owner of Resource Rags, a wholesale vintage clothing business out of Toronto Canada, Buratto was a vintage buyer for Urban Outfitters and founder of EB Vintage, both located in Philadelphia.
Edward Dormer has a country-born natural eye for the rural aesthetic of well-designed farm equipment, efficient tools and quality workwear. As an industrial designer and conceptual artist, he mixes this appreciation for traditional quality with a strong belief citing innovation as the source of excellent design. In Dormer’s diverse career, his design work ranges from interactive exhibits at Philadelphia’s Please Touch Museum to developing and fabricating defense, medical and commercial products with team companies Edge Product Development Corporation and Design Farm of Yardley. And for his conceptual art, Dormer has exhibited nationally and internationally, receiving international grant awards, fellowships and commissions, including a residency funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts at Château de La Napoule in Southern France, a public art grant from Gniew Castle in Northern Poland, and a year-long variable project in Berlin/Potsdam Germany.
