GoRuck

Military-spec carryalls

Available at sugarcube: 124 N 3rd St; Old City; 215.238.0825

When the public gets its hands on military stuff, it’s generally been toned down, except for Sgt. Slaughter. That dude is cut! Bringing actually soldier-grade rucksacks to the civvy market, GoRuck.

Just now storming Old City, Ruck’s a new line of backpacks designed by a former Green Beret who, unable to find the unflappably rugged gear he was used to, sketched some rough designs on napkins and set out to make the most durable bags anywhere, field testing them by packing them with bricks and entering the borderline-psychotic Tough Mudder endurance run in the Poconos — proving that the bags can withstand mud, water, heat, and fire, although the jury’s out on heart, because no one invited the guy with the monkey…

GORUCK brings military-grade gear to adventure-seekers the world over. Tailored to the needs of the individual, by the individual, for the individual…

The Steven Alan Reverse Seam Shirt is their signature style. The details that set it apart from the average button down are a twisted placket, slightly tailored body, and French seams at the side.

Inspired by traditional American work wear, Steven Alan’s vintage work shirt is both rugged and functional. Shoulders and top part of shirt has cotton lining for some structure. This spring vintage workshirt runs true to size and for spring is featured in a softer lighter weight cotton, yet style has that workshirt texture.

New Arrival | The Andean Collection | rain forest seeds

The Andean Collection | Rainforest Seed Jewelry | Bracelets + Necklaces

Olga Lucia Morán, hand makes these fresh necklaces and bracelets out of South American rainforest and lowland seeds in Pucara, Ecuador.

The beautifully colored Acai (ah-sai-ee) seeds of the Acaipalm  are gathered raw and then pigmented. The fruit surrounding the seed, sustainably harvested for food and often served as a beverage, has gained global fame in recent years due to its high antioxidant and energizing properties. The commercialization of these seeds allows both farmers and artisans to make livable wages.

The Andean Collection brings you great fashion forward designs, while creating a greener planet, and providing a path out of poverty for artisans using fair-trade principles. In addition to being paid fair wages, their artisans share in the profits of the company as partial owners.

Hosted at CITYSPACE, a historical 3-story mansion built and designed by the masterminds behind City Hall and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philly Homegrown is Yelp Philadelphia’s annual Open Event. On March 20th Homegrown Philly was not only an opportunity to have a great night, but become familiar with local businesses that are trying to create a better way of a life and a smaller environmental footprint.

At Philly Homegrown, guests enjoyed nibbles from invited organic eateries including Supper, National Mechanics, Elevation Burger, Terra, The Pita Pit, and Fuel, as well as sustainable sips from The Franklin Mortgage and Investment Co, ROOT Liquor, Square One Organic Vodka, Canadian Club – and many many more. But why stop at the usual cocktail fare? Guests also interacted with retail Installations and workshops from Sugarcube®, TrickGo, Square Peg Artery and Salvage,  and Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction. They also pampered themselves with beauty treatments from Plume to Tierra Mia Organic Nail Spa. A great night supporting local businesses for over 450 Yelpers!
