Unplanned Unpatterned

Silverspace for Sugarcube

Silverspace for Sugarcube is a line of hand-crocheted fiber art made especially for our shop by artist Asimina Chremos. These psychedelic doilies are meant to be placed on a table, desk, or other surface to beautify your home or workspace. A doily can serve as a cushion between the table and a small sculpture, vase of flowers, etc., or be a “bed” for special items such as jewelry or watch. It can also sit there and look good.

“Both my grandmothers did crochet, I learned from them. I can never sit still without something in my hands, and crochet is a great occupation for ‘hungry’ fingers. I’m also an improvisor, I like to flow rather than follow a pattern and count stitches. Colorplay is a joy.”

Biography

Asimina Chremos returned to live in Philadelphia in 2010 after over a decade in Chicago where she evolved a distinct improvisational dance style while working in collaboration with musicians such as Nathaniel Braddock, Carol Genetti and Fred Lonberg-Holm. In recent years, she has applied principles of improvisation to the crochet work she learned from her grandmothers, thus applying a non-traditional, creative and artistic approach to a very traditional craft.
